WE GOTTA MOVE (2008) - CD

DAMIAN COEN has now released his much-anticipated second album of all-original songs, WE GOTTA MOVE. Recorded with his fabulous four-piece acoustic blues band, THE FATHERS OF NECESSITY, the album also features guest appearances by the likes of Don Hopkins (piano), Cazzbo Johns (tuba), Robert Maxwell Jones (bass vocals), and Marcus Holden (strings). Once again, Coen has teamed up with old friend, Damon Davies, as co-producer, utilizing Davies' Planet Mars recording studio. The result is a stunning album that finally realizes Coen's powerful song-writing, harmonica prowess, and impressive musical sensibilities.

WE GOTTA MOVE takes the listener on a rambling narrative journey, from love and connection to love-gone-wrong; from the perils of rampant consumerism to protest songs about war and imperialist intervention; and even a lament about the plight of musicians who dare to be creative and outspoken. Drifting through swampy blues, hillbilly tunes, sweet ballads, and gospel harmonies, the album showcases Coen's unique knack for marrying blues and roots influences with contemporary story telling.

SIX LANE HIGHWAY (2004) - CD

SIX LANE HIGHWAY is Damian Coen's first recorded collection of all-original songs, and is steeped in the rich musical influences of the southern United States, from the early half of the twentieth century. While the genre is loosely country blues, there are shades of good-time jug band music, gospel harmonies, old time ballads, and heartfelt delta blues. The unifying thread woven throughout derives from Damian's personal and political narratives, and his fluidity with the blues harp. The album has been showered with critical acclaim (see Reviews).
